What is poured into the veins of life is no more than what flows and drains away. -Lucretius, On the Nature of Things

As veins in the body serve to return blood from organs to the heart, similarly the veins of life serve to return nutrients to all living things. Veins of life represent pathways of food, from creation to consumption.

In our society, any variety of food product can be purchased from anywhere for our convenience. But have you ever questioned where that food really came from, how it affects not only your body, but also the economy, and the environment?

Over two thousand years ago, Lucretius, a Roman poet and philosopher wrote,

"At length everything is brought to its upmost limits of growth by Nature... This is reached when what is poured into the veins of life is no more than what flows and drains away. Already the life force is broken."

This sentiment is felt today. The current agricultural system in the U.S. is broken and will collapse when modern farming strips the soil and the oil runs out. At that time, agriculture will be left to the small, locally owned farms that have and will continue to produce healthy food.
